Easter at Mt Saint Vincent
The sound of the children laughing as they raced around the yard searching for eggs made Barb smile. “This,” she said, “is what makes it all worthwhile.”
Barb and the 15-plus members of the Wheat Ridge Kiwanis Club spent several weeks organizing their seventh annual Easter egg hunt for the children at Mount Saint Vincent. Club members collect toys, games, chocolate bunnies, and stuffed animals — enough for every child in residential treatment to fill his or her own Easter basket. And that’s not even mentioning the 250 eggs the club members fill with toys and trinkets.
This year, the kiddos were treated to six different games to play on the athletic field, including a football toss, a card and dice game of chance, and a bean bag throw. The man of the hour? The Easter Bunny himself, of course.
“Our members love the privilege of being able to put a smile on the kids’ faces, and more importantly, let them know they matter,” said Barb.
Here at Mount Saint Vincent, we are so thankful for the Wheat Ridge Kiwanis Club and the hundreds of other wonderful volunteers who give of their time and effort to give our children one of the simplest and meaningful gifts of all: the gift of just being a child.
